VAFC Announces Election of New Board Members and Officers

Glen Allen, VA – The Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC) today announced the election of new board members and officers for the coming year:

During the recently conducted 2005 VAFC Annual Conference, the VAFC membership elected the following individuals to the VAFC Board of Directors for three-year terms (2005 – 2008):

  • Dr. Karen Remley – A resident of Virginia Beach, she is medical director/External Quality for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia, and also serves as a board member and volunteer at the Beach Health Clinic.
  • Rev. Rick Mallory – A resident of Moneta, he is pastor of Morgan’s Baptist Church in Moneta, and also serves as president of the Bedford Christian Free Clinic Board of Directors.
  • Russell A. Fowler, Esq. – A resident of Winchester, he is an attorney with Winchester Law Group and is immediate past president of the Free Medical Clinic of Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Following this meeting, the VAFC Board of Directors elected its new officers for 2005-2006.  They are as follows:

  • Ward Stevens, President – A resident of Blacksburg, he is CEO of Montgomery Regional Hospital and also serves as board member of Free Clinic of the New River Valley.
  • Dell B. South, Vice President – A resident of Alexandria, she is a clinical education consultant for Pfizer Inc.
  • Marge Rowe, Treasurer – A resident of Winchester, she is executive director of St. Luke Community Clinic in Front Royal.
  • Ellen Swecker, Secretary – A resident of Harrisonburg, she is Executive Director of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic.

Founded in 1993, the VAFC is the oldest Free Clinic association in the U.S. Its mission is to support, strengthen, and advocate for Free Clinics to deliver quality health care services to Virginia’s low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents.
